joe davenport: mr.

My father, Elmer Davenport, was with the 30ID, 119IR, and fought from mid June 1944, thru France, belgium, and Holland.  He was in the battle for Mortain, and others I can't remember (he told me this in 1969).  He was subsequently captured on October 22nd during the battle for Aachen.  He spent 7 months in captivity in Stalag IIA or IXB.  There seems to be some discrepancy from what he told me compared to official military records.  He saw more than his share of combat.  I am so proud of him.

Guest: Christmas

sianross: Quality Tracks Here!

I run a professional theatre company - we use many backing tracks and often have to have custom tracks made when we can't find ready made tracks.  I've just downloaded 'The Army The Navy and The Air Force' for a forthcoming World War II show and I have to say it's the highest quality track I've found - truly excellent.  I'll certainly be coming back to this website in the future.  Best wishes, Sian Ross

Hello Fred, seems like a zillion years ago we met on Omaha Beach, during the 60th commemoration of D-Day. I remember the sun rising over a misty but calm sea, the wide beaches mostly desolate of people... Will be there again this June, for the 63rd commemoration. Check out my new website: over 1.300 pages on the US Paratroops during WWII. Not just their Stories, but massive Menu's about their Gear, Personal Items, Rations, Helmets, Songs, Lyrics, Databases, Patches etc. The biggest Online Scrapbook and Visual Database, and free for all. Lets make sure WWII is remembered by generations to come. pararesearchteam.com LEST WE FORGET OUR LIBERATORS !

I am researching the WWII History of my father in law who was a radar operator on a C-47. He was in the 49th Troop Carrier Squadron. On D-Day he flew with Captain Jack Cardwell. His name was Sgt. Paul Decker. Mission Boston, Serial #22, #2. The lead paratrooper on the plane was 1st Lt. Napierkowski.. I am also searching for a copy of the history of the 49th Troop Carrier Squadron. I have studied the book Pulse and Repulse (Troop Carrier & Airborne Teams in Europe during WWII) by H. Rex Shama. Mr. Shama was a glider pilot in the 49th.

Comments i'm looking for info about my great-uncle Major Robert B Arnold. He grew up in IL, but enlisted from Middlesex County NJ. He served with the US Army 207th Field Artillery battalion and was KIA 2/24/45. Buried in the Netherlands. I just received several letters he had written home, also some documents from my dad.

I'm transcribing the POW DIary of my granduncle, Edwin "Eddie" Erickson, of the 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He landed on DDay and was captured on June 7th along with Captain Wood or Ward, and Eddies friend, "Weinberg". He spent the rest of the war in Stalags, and was liberated by the Russians eventually. Made it back to the US eventually, raised a family with at least 22 great great grandkids.

I would very much to know if any one remembers my second uncle Dr. Harold Burch Riser who was present at D-day, sorry have no details as to where or when but was taking care of injuries from D-Day. And he was never able to talk about any of his experiences. Must have been terrible. I am so grateful to all that served and this is a great sight.

Martin Geerdink

Hallo Fred,
